The Velosters; what originally started as a small gang became a pack of dogs, wolves, foxes, coyotes and any other specie still with the mindset of a gang. They are a close group, accepting those who may not be able to find a home elsewhere or maybe looking for a new start. In a sense, you could say the Velosters are a family.
The pack revolves around just mainly providing safety for others who may feel unwanted. Unlike your traditional pack, this group is free spirited which means that things are pretty flexible. What they do ask however, is loyalty. It is expected that if one is threatened by an outsider then the rest of the pack should defend them. The pack’s nature is chaotic neutral, all they care for is their land, their own and fun. In the past, they have been known to cause trouble and can come off as a little crazy to outsiders but they enjoy the chaotic side of life. The pack is more known for being a gang really, only they are willing to get involved and save others if they require the help, making them a little more social than other packs when it comes to the outside world and more suited to city life.
While they are a flexible pack, there are set ranks as well as rules. The pack’s ranks consist of an alpha or a pair, betas (maximum is 4), Vetos, healers (maximum is 3) and general members. There are cases of spies but they are not a separate rank set in stone just yet.
The alpha is the one who currently leads the group. While they are ranked the alpha, they don’t essentially have to be addressed as alpha. This role includes who goes and who stays in the pack, what ranks others are assigned to and manages any other business inside and outside of the pack. All other ranks report to the alpha(s).
Beta.
The betas are the ones who are close with the alpha, trusted among others in the pack and often advisors. Like a pack, if the alpha is unable to function as a leader for whatever reason the the betas are next in line to take over. Since there are normally 4 betas, should the time come when the alpha is no longer present, the pack will hold a vote for one to take the place of the previous alpha. All ranks aside from the alpha report to the betas.
Veto.
Vetos are essentially the ones who have been trusted to perform specific tasks since they are also trustworthy like the betas. They may do tasks like helping out around the pack, recruit those who they deem necessary, have a reputation within the pack and even have been involved in spy work. One could say they are like the general members of the pack only with set duties that involve helping others in order for the pack to stay alive and functioning. It’s common for Vetos to be trusted with information and be the eyes and ears on the street. For this role of aiding the alpha, betas or healers, Vetos are to be respected.
Healer.
Of course every pack needs some type of healer. This pack tends to revolve around the number of 3 healers as pack members vary, meaning different members require different types of attention. Thus why there are 3 healers, each healer may have different strengths or capabilities.
General member.
These guys are the body of the pack. They don’t really have a proper name for their rank simply because they don’t have to take on a role, of course still must follow rules like everyone else but these people are here to just be here and have somewhere to stay. All sorts of characters reside in this rank, some new and some old members. It’s not uncommon for members to learn how to fight or survive, resulting in them teaching each other or taught by the Vetos.
This is typically a place where members of the pack can meet up and hang out for a bit when the weather conditions aren’t so great outside. It is also a popular spot to reside for most as the building supplies plenty of rooms if one should need a living space. During winter, the building offers good protection from the elements but not so great as it gets hot in the summer.
Mental hospital.
Not really a popular spot for most as it is a little scary during the day when nobody is around but that doesn’t stop everyone. Despite it once being a hospital, the healers don’t really go here due to it being so cold and dusty. Instead it may be used as a meeting place for ranks to discuss what goes on in or out of the pack, sometimes even where others from another pack may meet to discuss terms with the Velosters. Since its closure, the place has been vandalised and raided though some items have been found and given to the healers to use if necessary. It is a good place to go to when you want peace and quiet or just to explore. However, there are occasions where some may hold parties for whatever reason, making it extremely noisy as things tend to echo.
High school.
Depending on the month, the high school can either be almost empty or busy. Since it is slowly being taken over by nature, some parts are left alone. The pack does hold a monthly competition here, mainly in the gym building where members of the pack may battle it out in a competition. Other times members may train here or use the rest of the school to reside in and explore.
Abandoned cruise ship.
This ship is the main headquarters of the pack. Though the bottom of it is a little flooded, the ship is deeemed safe enough to stay in. It provides a good view from the top deck and a big enough space for other ranks to discuss certain topics. The alpha tends to stay on the ship, where the control panel room on top of the deck resides. Should there be a pack meeting, it is healed on this ship.
Fight fest.
The name sounds a little cheesy but this monthly competition takes place in the school gym building and lasts for a few days, usually 3-4. This gives a chance for the pack to get together and show off their skills in fighting and let off a bit of steam. Not everyone has to attend but people do like to watch or even join in. It’s all in good fun and nobody is required to die for first place. The winner of each of these competitions doesn’t gain any specific award apart from the title and reputation.
New moon gathering.
The new moon gathering symbolises the fact that those who have wished to start again have reached another month of doing so. It is held on the abandoned cruise ship on the top level where everyone is able to see the moon. This celebration takes place at night and lasts only that night. This night is usually pretty wild and everyone can let loose to have a good time here, howling at the moon and jumping from the boat into the water is one of the many activities.
Initiation ceremony.
Everyone in the pack has taken part in this and is probably the most respected tradition in the pack as it welcomes new members. This normally takes place in the evening on the cruise ship where the new member must stand and recite their loyalty to the pack (Along the lines of, ‘I __, stand here among my fellow members to to be, to pledge my loyalty to the Velosters.’), while everyone else watches. After this, they would carve their name or symbol that represents them on a stone gathered from the beach and place it among the others on the ship.
If you would like a rank please post below or PM me if you would like an existing character to join the pack. Keep in mind that if you wish for a rank such as Beta, Veto or Healer then these characters will be close with the alpha and therefore would have earned their position.
